Online Voting for Two Seats on AMHS Board of Directors Now Open

Voting Deadline — December 16, 2025

The AMHS is pleased to introduce two candidates for the Board of Directors: Sophia Giudici and Carmine Spellane. If elected, Sophia and Carmine will serve three years, with their term starting on January 1, 2026. The four officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) and the other four members of the Board of Directors are not up for election this year.

Please note that the election is conducted under Article VI of the Society’s bylaws.  Voting will be by email only.  Please see the instructions below on how to cast your ballot.

MEET THE CANDIDATES

Sophia M. Giudici is currently a PhD student in English at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Born and raised in New Jersey, her father and grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Trieste in 1958. They lived in Manhattan's Little Italy before moving to Hoboken, N.J. Sophia is a teacher, poet, and artist. She can be found with her nose in a book or making coffee at your local cafe!

Carmine James Spellane was born and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia to which his maternal grandparents immigrated from Molise. His grandfather, Carmine Di Santo, hailed from Sesto Campano near Venafro.  His grandmother, Maria Comegna, was a native of Capracotta. He has lived in the Washington, D.C. area since 1969, first as a student at American University, then as a communications professional for more than 40 years, including 21 years as Media Director for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).  Carmine has been an AMHS member since 2.  He served as AMHS Secretary from 2017-2023.  Since 2019, he has been the editor of the Notiziario, guiding it through design changes and the transition from print to online publication.  Carmine lives with his wife, Ruth Bergman, in the Friendship Heights neighborhood of Chevy Chase, Maryland.

HOW TO VOTE

Members in good standing are eligible to vote. A ballot sent by those holding couple’s membership shall be counted as two votes.

To cast your ballot:

1) Send an email to AMHS President Chris Renneker.

Click HERE to generate an email to the President.

2) Type an “x” next to the name of each candidate for whom you wish to vote.

3) You may write in the name of other members not proposed by the committee, but only with the consent of those members, as per our bylaws.

4) Sign the email by typing in your name, or both names if you have a couple’s membership.

4) Click “Send.”

Please vote by the deadline, December 16, 2025.
