President Chris Renneker and Secretary Sonny Scafetta presented the AMHS wreath at the annual Columbus Day ceremony on Monday, October 13, 2025. The event is usually held in front of the Columbus statue at Union Station but, because of the federal government shutdown, the National Park Service canceled it. So, the National Christopher Columbus Association, which puts the ceremony together, relocated the event to the hall inside the Casa Italiana, where the AMHS holds its meetings.
October activities continued with the AMHS Fall Hike on Saturday, October 18. The Society’s Events Team hosted an enjoyable fall 5-mile hike along the C&O Canal in Georgetown. There were six participants: our President, Mr. Chris Renneker, Events Committee Chair Teresa Black, Ryan Lore, and three potential new members. After the hike, we enjoyed a nice, cold brew at Rick’s Grille on the Potomac. We look forward to another hike soon before the weather becomes too chilly. We hope that you'll consider joining us.
