Christopher Renneker, our AMHS president, will be going to the Italian-American Future Leaders convention in Florida in January. Chris’ application to the Class of 2025 was accepted and he will be joining a network of young leaders and professionals from across the United States.

Michael Giacchino was born in Riverside Township, New Jersey, on October 10, 1967. His paternal grandparents emigrated from Sicily; his maternal grandparents, from Abruzzo.

As my 11 years of organizing programs for the AMHS came to an end on December 31, 2024, I thought our members might be interested in seeing an overview of the programs we have had.

The featured speaker for our meeting on Sunday. January 26, 2025, will be Stefano Scafetta who retired in November 2008 as the senior conservator of paintings at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) in Washington, D.C. He was born in Formia in the region of Lazio, Italy, during World War II.

Sometimes taking a leap of faith — to Italy — is the best choice you can make in your life. At the beginning of 2022, I was at a crossroads as my Bachelor’s program was coming to an end, and I was not certain of my next steps. One of my Italian professors and my cousin in Italy both questioned my rush to apply for Master’s programs.

An audience of 70 recently decided that it would be fun to spend a chilly autumn day at a wonderful wine tasting in Casa Italiana. Not only did participants get to sample several delicious Italian wines, they also heard a talk about the wines from a local expert who brought the bottles from his own wine cellar.

The small town of Rotello is located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) northeast of Campobasso. in the province of Campobasso. It has about 1,190 inhabitants, called Rotellesi.

AMHS President Christopher J. Renneker was elected on November 13, 2024, to the Board of Directors of the National Christopher Columbus Association (NCCA) of which the AMHS is an organizational member.

The very beautiful small town of Villalago is in the province of L’Aquila. It has approximately 616 inhabitants, known as Villalaghesi. It is one of I Borghi più belli d’Italia (The most beautiful villages of Italy).

Filippo Palizzi was born in the small city of Vasto (population 41,409 in the 2017 Census) on the Adriatic coast in the province of Chieti in the region of Abruzzo, on June 16, 1818. When he was 19, he moved to Naples and enrolled in the Royal Institute of Fine Arts.

Arthur DeFelice received his AMHS scholarship in 2003 while attending George Washington University where he pursued a dual major in Political Science and Criminal Justice.
