Professor Vittoria’s Book Now Available in Italian
AMHS members may recall that Professor Carmine Vittoria gave a talk at Casa Italiana on June 9, 2019 (it seems like such a long time ago). He told the compelling story of family, a story of hardship and survival, through the eyes of a boy growing up in the small town of Avella before, during and shortly after World War II. After his talk, Maria Fusco, the Education Counselor at the Embassy of Italy, suggested to him to translate his book into Italian. Professor Vittoria is happy to announce that his book, “Bitter Chicory to Sweet Espresso” (Survival and Deliverance from WW II in the Naples Area 1940-49), has been translated into Italian by Lucia Cristina Tirri.
The title of the book is “Dal Caffe’ di Cicoria al Caffe Espresso: L’Italia della mia Infanzia”, Sopravvivenza e Liberazione Nei Paesi del Sole Durante La Seconda Guerra Mondiale.” He notes: “Words can easily be translated, but, most importantly, Dr. Tirri has been able to capture the spirit and intent of the book as well. Those events are described from the perspective of a child, who experienced those events first-hand.
