Panorama
Teramo Panorama The town of Teramo stands on the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino rivers, and it is due to this position that in ancient times it was called the Interamnia (“between the rivers”). The territory of the province of which it forms the center is very varied; while the landscape towards the sea is gentle and harmonious, with the coast interrupted only by the mouth of the rivers that disembogue into the Adriatic, the interior is rugged in terrain-- its often snow-bound mountains characteristic of the Appennine and sub-Appennine ranges.

The town’s most important source of income is agriculture, even though industry and tourism have undergone considerable development in modern times, the latter especially so in the seaside resorts of the province (Roseto degli Abruzzi, Silva Marina, Tortoreto Lido, Alba Adriatica and Pineto). Interesting testimonies to the beautiful Interamnia of the Romans are preserved in the town, including the remains of the Amphitheatre and the Theatre dating to the 3rd and 4th century.
