I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society for having chosen me as one of the recipients for the Abruzzo Molise Scholarship. It is truly an honor to have been selected for this prestigious award from your organization. I would like to thank all of the members of the Scholarship Committee for the hard work they put into reviewing the many applications received from students. Finally I would like to extend my thanks to all the scholarship contributors who have helped to make this scholarship possible. I will always remember the generosity of the Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society that has helped me  to achieve my goals as a student of Italian language and culture, and I look forward to the day when I can give back to you just as you all have so generously give to me.

Mark D. Sugi

John Hopkins University

Baltimore, MD

Faculty Advisor:  Ph.D. Charles S. Singleton Professor of Italian Studies and Vice Chairman of the Department of Romance Languages and Literature

Grazie mille! It is a great honor to be recognized by this prestigious cultural society. The financial and personal support is invaluable for students seeking to promote Italian culture in their academic endeavors.

With some soldi in tasca, I would like to pursue a project in Rome and in Vatican City, investigating the relationship between the Church and State. I am currently applying to a number of graduate programs around the world, but would ultimately like to work for an organization like Medecins Sans Frontieres and perhaps earn enough to return in abundance, the financial support that has allowed me to study and explore in these formative years. I am currently a senior at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
