The modern city of Pescara extends along the Adriatic littoral, its wide beaches flanked
by a magnificent esplanade. Thanks to its numerous bathing establishments and excellent
facilities, Pescara is rightly considered the most important summer resort on the middle
Adriatic, as well as the major commercial center of the region. It is also provided with
a port-canal animated by motor-trawlers and steam-boats, on which the flourishing fishing
industry is concentrated. Among the sights worth visiting are the Dannunziana Pinewood,
the house of Gabriele D’Annunzio, who was born in Pescara, and the Cathedral of San Cetteo.
The Palazzo del Governo is also interesting: it houses “The daughter of Iorio”, a famous
painting by the Abruzzo artist, Francesco Paolo Michetti. It is pleasant to stroll through
the streets of the city center, always bustling with a motley crowd of tourists and animated
by the glittering show-windows of the boutiques that flank the main thoroughfares.
La moderna citta’ si snoda lungo il litorale adriatico con la sua ampia spiaggia fiancheggiata da un magnifico lungomare. Grazie ai numerosi stabilimenti balneari e alle ottime attrezzature, Pescara e’ considerata a ragione il centro di soggiorno estivo piu’ importante del medio Adriatico, nonche’ il punto di maggior riferimento commerciale della regione. E’anche fornita di um porto-canale animato da motopescherecci e vaporetti dove si concentra la fiorente attivita’ peschereccia. Una visita meritano la Pineta Dannunziana, la casa di Gabriele D’Annunzio, a cui Pescara diede i natali, e la Cattedrale di San Cetteo. Interessante il Palazzo del Governo all’interno del quale e’ custodito “La figlia di Iorio”, famoso quadro di Francesco Paolo Michetti, pittore abruzzese. Piacevole una passeggiata per le vie del centro sempre animate dalla folla eterogenea di turisti e dalle luminose vetrine delle boutiques che costellano le principali arterie cittadine.
