On Sunday April 24, 2005, 57 of our members and friends participated in another successful, AMHS sponsored one day bus trip, this time - to historic Philadelphia Pennsylvania. It was a cool day with threat of rain, but it stayed dry all day. We are thankful for that. We traveled in a comfortable, modern 57 seat bus and fully loaded. We are, of course, sorry that we could not accommodate all of the people that wanted to come with us on this trip.

Our first stop was the “Italian Market” where we explored all the shops and enjoyed Italian delicacies from pastry shops, Pizzeria’s and coffee shops. Some of us took advantage of the reasonable prices at the fruit stands, cases of grapes were a special bargain.

Next our bus dropped us off at the historic downtown district. As a group we toured the Liberty Bell Pavilion and attended a presentation, by National Park Service personnel, on the history of the Bell. Then proceeded to Independence Hall for a very informative tour and presentation on the birth of our nation by how the creation of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution occurred , right there in that hall.

The group then had free time to explore on their own many of the other historic sites nearby – such as Congress Hall, Carpenters’ Hall, Franklin Square etc. Near dinner time we reassembled and walked a few blocks to an Italian restaurant where we leisurely enjoyed a delicious Italian meal in a spacious and attractive setting with a view.

After dinner we boarded our bus for our trip home. Thanks to Sergio Fresco for bringing music cds for entertainment on the way up and video entertainment for the trip back. Also thanks to many who pitched in and helped when needed – such as helping to pass out the breakfast drinks and pastries, and bottles of water. But most of all thanks to all who traveled with us and made it a successful trip. I consider an event like this a success when friends spend time together enjoying each other’s company and hopefully having some fun at the same time – and maybe even make new friends.
