Surrounded by imposing mountains, the town looks at the same time, towards the sea.
Thanks precisely to this splendid position that Chieti has been called the “Balcony of Abruzzo”.
The town’s economy, at one time exclusively agricultural, has in recent times undergone
considerable development in the industrial and tourist sectors. Sights
worth visiting are the National Museum of Antiquities and the remains of ancient
Teate (as the town was called in antiquity). These latter consist of the Roman
Baths with a large cistern and a series of thermal rooms, the so-called Tempietti
di San Paolo, and the Roman Theatre which dominates from above the whole Valley of the Pescara River.
Cinta da poderose ed imponenti montagne la citta guarda, al tempo stesso, verso il mare; e grazie proprio a questa sua splendida posizione che Chieti e’ stata definita il “Balcone d’Abruzzo”. L’economia della zona, un tempo esclusivamente agricola, si e’ in questi ultimi anni assai sviluppata nel settore industriale ed in quello turistico. Interessanti le visite al Museo Nazionale di Antichita’ ed ai resti dell’antica Teate (nome con il quale veniva chiamata un tempo Chieti). Questi ultimi sono costituti dalle Terme Romane con una grande cisterna e una serie di ambienti termali, dai Tempietti di S. Paolo, e dal Teatro Romano che domina dall’alto tutta la Valle del Pescara.
