AMHS Caribbean Cruise - March 2007 |
I am happy to report good news about our Caribbean cruise of March 4 to 11, 2007 consisting of 59 AMHS members and friends. The good news is that - in spite of rumors about snow storms threatening airline traffic along the east coast during the week prior to our sailing date – all 59 people arrived in Fort Lauderdale Florida and boarded our Costa Magica cruise ship in time for the 4:30 PM departure. Considering reports in the news lately of a number of missing person from cruise lines at sea – the even better news was that all 59 people safely got off the ship upon our return.
From all accounts from members of our group – it was a very enjoyable cruise. The Italian atmosphere that prevailed throughout the ship added to the experience. Plus spending one week with 59 wonderful friends made this cruise special. It was like living in a small town, be it that it was floating in seemingly endless ocean, and meeting your friend at every turn throughout the ship and at the many activities on board. Then each evening meeting in the beautiful Portofino restaurant to dine together, like a big family.
Speaking of dining, as one may expect on a cruise, there certainly was no shortage of food throughout the day and evening in both formal and informal settings. Likewise for entertainment – with plenty of opportunities to participate in many daytime activities and evening class entertainment in the beautiful three level Urbino Theater. Plus the opportunity to participate in each Theme night activities such as the wearing your Toga and be Caesar or Cleopatra in Roman Night or to try for the title of the hilarious Mr. Pizza Man contest in Italian Night celebration – as did our own Joe Novello – and he won the title of Mr. Pizza Man. Congratulation Joe, you guys had the hundreds of people in the ballroom bursting with laughter, you are a good sport.
There were many opportunities to participate in optional land excursions and tours at the ports of call on the islands of Puerto Rico, St. Thomas USVI, Dominican Republic and Grand Turk/Caicos or just to take a leisure walk on shore and relax. At Grand Turks island many of us took the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beach, take a swim in the waters of the Caribbean and to visit Margaritaville and its spacious pool right on the beach.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all 59 of our members and friends who participated on this Italian Style cruise. It was a pleasure to spend a week with you. On a personal note, a special thanks to my sister Angelina and my niece Marie who came from the west coast for this cruise. By the way your roman togas were great.
Thank you all. Until next time – Hail Caesar !!!
